Andrea Durkee, LPC

Throughout my career I have enjoyed counseling parents, children, adolescents, families, and individuals adjusting to life’s difficulties.
Mental health issues can impact family relationships, friendships, and work. Children having behavioral issues can also negatively affect their families, siblings, and their success in school. It can feel overwhelming to try and find someone who can help. I am here to provide understanding, support, and knowledge to help you make the
changes to improve your life.

I got my master’s degree at the University of Notre Dame, and I am a licensed professional counselor. I have worked in community mental health and at a VFW family/residential program. I have taught classes at the college level, and I am an elementary school counselor. I draw on this wide variety of experiences to help clients and provide the best interventions I can provide. I have worked with people who have had depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, child behavior issues, ADHD, mild ASD, separation anxiety, OCD, school issues and social skills issues to name a few.

I value building rapport and a trusting working relationship with clients to work on goals they identify. With adults I use a variety of approaches to suit their situation. I have often used cognitive behavioral and rational emotive therapy techniques informed by a
person’s history and family dynamics. I also use mindfulness skills and assess motivation. With children, I often use play therapy, art, games, and books to engage with them and provide experiential learning. I collaborate with parents and help them navigate the school resources and value getting input from the school.
