September is Suicide Prevention Month—a time to raise awareness, foster acceptance, and encourage open dialogue about mental health.

Mental health shapes how we feel, think, and interact. Everyone has mental health, just like physical health, and facing challenges is normal. Acceptance of ourselves and others creates safe spaces for honest conversations and healing.

According to the World Health Organization, over 700,000 people die by suicide each year worldwide. Every suicide is a devastating loss for families and communities. Behind every statistic is a person who needed understanding, connection, and hope.

Stigma can prevent people from seeking help or speaking up. By talking openly about mental health and showing empathy, we can break these barriers. Bullying, discrimination, and lack of support can have a profound impact, leading to isolation, depression, and anxiety. Addressing mental health needs and supporting those at risk is a shared responsibility—by standing together, we build a kinder, safer environment.

Suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Recognizing warning signs—such as withdrawal, mood changes, or talk of hopelessness—can save lives. If you notice someone struggling, reach out, listen without judgment, and encourage professional help.

By embracing acceptance, fighting stigma, and supporting each other, we can create a community where mental wellness is prioritized. If you or someone you know is in crisis, call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or reach out to local resources—help is always available.
